Job DescriptionJOB DESCRIPTIONJob Title: Medical ReceptionistGeneral Summary of Duties: Performs various clerical duties such as answering telephones, taking messages, scheduling appointments, copying materials, and creating / maintaining electronic medical records (EMR).Major Responsibilities/Tasks:1. Protect physician license.2. Maintain compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, OSHA, HIPAA, OIG, and any other legal or contracted obligations at all times.3. Answer telephone calls in a courteous manner, screen calls, and record messages for physician and other personnel.4. Schedule patient appointments and procedures according to established protocol.5. Obtain accurate information from patients and ensure all registration forms are complete.6. Collect patient and insurance payments and reconcile charges on a daily basis.7. Process insurance information for billing company in a timely manner.8. Provide information to patients regarding unpaid balances.9. Assist physician with rooming patients as needed.10. Enter records in appropriate sections of patient charts and keeps patient EMR in proper order.11. Prepare patient EMR in advance and close patient EMR when complete.12. Transcribe letters and create forms as needed.13. Copy patient information and forward to requesting party after receiving appropriate consent to release medical records.14. Maintain files and records in a confidential manner.15. Maintain organization and efficiency of front office, including office supply inventory.16. Maintain patient confidentiality.17. 1G6 Perform population management activities. This includes updating registries and reviewing quality metrics on a monthly basis for patient outreach gaps in care around evidence-based guidelines.18. 1G4 Review and remind patients of overdue services such as missed appointments, immunizations, labs, and preventative services.19. Tracks patients orders to ensure lab and imaging tests are performed and specialists and ancillary services are received.20. Perform other related duties as directed or assigned.EDUCATION: High school graduation.EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years medical office experience.KNOWLEDGE: The jobholder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to the job position.1. Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.2. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices.3. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to communicate effectively.4. Knowledge of computer programs and applications.SKILLS:1. Skill in using office equipment and handling paperwork/filing adequately.2. Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately.3. Skill in written and verbal communication.4. Skill in gathering, interpreting, and reporting insurance information.ABILITIES:1. Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.2. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.3. Ability to interpret and understand insurance benefits and reimbursement.4. Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.5. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.5. Ability to communicate clearly.6. Ability to work with little supervision.7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment. Occasionally lifting and carrying files up to 20 pounds. May require working under stressful conditions.ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment.
