SoBran is seeking a Research Support Specialist I (Rodent Quarantine Manager) to serve at the National Institutes of Health campus in Poolesville, Maryland. OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Research Support Specialist – Rodent Quarantine Manager for the NIH, Laboratory Animal Care Project. These responsibilities include all activities required for the proper care and maintenance of laboratory animals. This person is expected to be familiar with the day-to-day activities, personnel and issues within the facilities. We expect the individual to be forward thinking and create and assist in developing plans to enhance the learning abilities and performance of the staff working on this contract. The position will assist the Program Management in the efficient allocation of the budget and develop and maintain an effective relationship with the Government staff.Description of Duties:Understand and follow all SOPs and Quality Assurance StandardsAlert veterinary staff and supervisor of emergencies, signs of abnormal or poor health, abnormal behavior or other animal concernsAlert supervisors of any facility variances or concerns and document as instructedPerform and document animal health checksPerform animal husbandry duties as assignedPerform and document daily facility and room maintenance and sanitation as assignedSafely and correctly handle animalsMaintain all documentation records accuratelyEnsure supplies are kept at adequate levelsReceive, examine, transfer, identify and properly house shipped or transferred animalsPrepare and submit required written records, charts, logs and inventories as requested by the Task ManagerCollect, preserve, and prepare blood, urine, fecal and skin samplesAssist investigators with protocol specific needsMaintain quarantine colony management and record keepingAssist other animal caretakers as assignedLead by example in ways that exceed the expectation of the staffAssume a position as a team leader which includes helping to prepare the floor, solve everyday problems with minimal supervision, assist other caretakers, and supervisory staff while maintaining an air of professionalism.Assume shared responsibilities with other defined staff in the absence of the Task ManagerParticipate in weekly technical or SOP trainingAssist and/or perform ANY contract related activity as assigned by the Task ManagerPerform all other duties as assignedSchedule Requirements: All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned.
