# Position Information## Job DescriptionNorthern Virginia Mental Health Institute is a state psychiatric inpatient facility seeking a Primary Care Physician to provide medical care to patients admitted to the hospital by carefully evaluating and diagnosing their clinical conditions, prescribing medications and referring for appropriate treatment and/or medical consultation. Some of the duties include providing medical triage of the patients, preadmission clearance, admission history and physicals, rounding on units once per shift, reviewing and interpreting results of laboratory studies, performing minor surgical procedures, writing or dictating appropriate progress notes, and providing consultations upon request. The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge of medicine and differential diagnosis, the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, be able to adjust to changes in workload, and stays abreast with changes in the practice of medicine.Monetary and leave sign-on bonus available.## Minimum QualificationsMedical licensure by the Virginia Board of Medicine is required.Experience in the specialty area of general practitioner, family medicine practitioner, primary care or related specialty is required.## Preferred QualificationsExperience with psychiatric patients preferred.Board Certification is preferred.## Special RequirementsEmployment is contingent upon a satisfactory fingerprint-based background check and negative results in the pre-employment and other drug screenings that may occur during your employment.A full and complete on-line application is required for all positions; the application should include all work history beginning after the completion of high school or the equivalent (GED).
