Cyber Engineering Manager Req #: 205119 Location: Sterling, VA US Job Category: Engineering Security Clearance: Secret Clearance Status: Must be Obtainable Job Description Job Description What You'll Get to Do: Manage a team of highly technical Cyber integration engineers responsible for implementing cutting edge Cyber defense technologies in support of DHS. More About the Role: * Manages a large team or multiple smaller teams which would typically consist of both experienced professionals and managers responsible for researching, designing, developing, testing and supporting new systems, applications, and solutions for enterprise-wide cyber systems and networks. * Applies computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, and other cyber physical engineering disciplines to the design, development, integration, and support of innovative solutions or products that identify, exploit, protect against, or mitigate cyber security vulnerabilities. * Establishes or works to implement key elements of tactical and operational plans with measurable contribution towards the achievement of results of the sub-function or completion of a project. * Makes significant decisions on what their team of responsibility focuses on or executes as directed. Focus is on short-to mid-term operational plans (e.g., 1-2 years). * Develops new products, processes, standards or operational plans in support of the job function strategy. * Integrates new architectural features into existing infrastructures, designs cyber security architectural artifacts, provides architectural analysis of cyber security features, relates existing system to future needs and trends, embeds advanced forensic tools and techniques for attack reconstruction, provides engineering recommendations, and resolves integration and testing issues. * May interface with external entities including law enforcement, intelligence and other government organizations and agencies. * Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems or products to enhance performance of job area or demonstrates technical innovation in supporting business objectives. * Typically, has hiring, firing, promotion and reward authority within own area, in accordance with manager review and approval. * Manages teams responsible for providing specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. * Manages teams responsible for designing and planning network systems, establishing networking environments by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards. * Provides specific, detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. * Manages teams responsible for configuring and installing various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS) and conducting testing of network systems. * Manages teams responsible for maximizing network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization. * Requires the ability to influence others outside of own job area on policies, practices and procedures. * Works within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure. Performs network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations. You'll Bring These Qualifications: * Requires broad management knowledge to lead project teams in one department. Typically has mastery level knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with broad understanding of other areas within the job function * Experience with developing, operating, and maintaining test and development labs including the extensive use of virtualization using VMware vSphere, MS Hyper-V, Oracle Virtual Box, oVirt or another commercial or Open Source virtualization technology * Experience troubleshooting networking issues at the hands-on technical level, i.e. "crash carting" or remoting into a switch, router, or other virtual or hardware device to remediate an issue * Server and Server Blade experience including using Dell iDRAC, HP iLO, or other Out-of-Band remote access technology to access and troubleshoot servers or other computing devices, e.g. Wireless Access Points (WAP's), etc. * Strong understanding of Routing, Switching, and Cisco iOS, JunOS, or equivalent (Linux experience helpful) * Cabling, Power, Cooling, and optics familiarity or experience, UPS, Power Cord Whips, Connectors, etc. * Storage familiarity or experience, Fujitsu, EMC, NAS, etc. * Data Center experience including * Experience (or Familiarity) with Microsegmentation, Advanced Data Protection, Digital Rights Management tools technologies * Experience (or Familiarity) with the concepts of Tech Refresh, Configuration Management, Change Management, Agile, ITIL, COBIT, or PMBoK methodologies These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have: * Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) * Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) * Cisco or Juniper Certified, e.g. CCNP/CCNA/JNCP/JNCIA Certifications (one or more preferred) * PMP Certification (preferred but not required) * VMware VCP, Microsoft (MCTS or MCSE), Red Hat (RHCE or RHCA) and/or Splunk certifications (preferred) * SANS certifications (preferred) or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) * Splunk experience and certifications (preferred but not required) * Python coding experience (preferred but not required) * Typically has a University Degree (BA/BS) or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years related work experience.
